Banner Elk

Banner Elk is a popular resort town in the North Carolina High Country. It blends small town relaxation with the amenities of a larger city, including local shops and galleries extending through the valley. Home to Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk is a culinary hot spot, satisfying cravings with an array of dining options. It’s also been voted as one of the 10 Best Ski Towns in North America, since it's just 10 minutes from the two largest ski resorts in the South: Sugar Mountain Resort and Beech Mountain Resort. Both resorts feature exciting terrain for skiing and snowboarding, as well as the latest in rental equipment. A unique winter experience awaits at North Carolina’s first alpine roller coaster, Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster. This exhilarating attraction is open year-round to people of all ages.

In spring and summer, visitors come to Banner Elk for beautiful scenery and pleasant temperatures. The town is located at 3,701 feet above sea level, making it a cool getaway as warm weather pervades the South. Warmer months bring opportunities for hiking, biking, rafting, tubing, concerts and art festivals. Nearby are the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock.
