Bakersville

Banner Elk
Banner Elk is a popular resort town in the North Carolina High Country. Beech Mountain
The coolest town, literally! At an elevation of 5,506 feet, Beech Mountain is the highest town in all of eastern America. Blowing Rock

Boone

Bostic
Home to rolling green hills, the South Mountains Game Lands and the most iconic section of the Cherry Bounce Driving Trail, Bostic hides its treasures away on dusty, dirt roads. Visit Washburn’s General Store, “the oldest, consecutively family-owned and operated retail business in North Carolina” — it’s known for keeping modern necessities in stock next to old-fashioned penny candy from your grandparents’ heyday.
If you’re into mystery and folklore, the Bostic Lincoln Center exhibits key facts and testimony supporting the theory that President Abraham Lincoln was born here! For spirit-lovers, the Golden Valley area holds the glory of Blue Ridge Distilling Company — take a tour and sample its Defiant Whisky.

Our shops, lodging, restaurants and attractions showcase the best of the Smokies, support the economy of Far Western North Carolina and are eager to welcome you now and for years to come! Our neighboring counties in gray were hit the hardest and are on the path to rebuild, resilient and strong!
Canton
Escape to Canton, North Carolina, home to unlimited natural splendor and relaxing downtown strolls. Hike to breathtaking views in Pisgah National Forest, or peruse its historic Main Street for antiques, craft goods, or the perfect plate. Beautiful Lake Logan and its 260-acre Smoky Mountain sanctuary are just a short drive from downtown. Dillsboro
Dillsboro’s central location is just minutes away from Western North Carolina’s premier attractions and activities — the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, the Nantahala River and the South’s most scenic mountains, rivers and waterfalls. Forest City
Forest City is located six miles east of Rutherfordton, the county seat, and is situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. The town is interconnected by three US highways, 74, 221, 64, and one state highway 108. Forest City is only 15 minutes away from the Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Hendersonville
Downtown Hendersonville is accented by sitting areas, flowering planters, sidewalk dining and public art. It’s been called one of the nation’s most attractive small-town shopping districts because of its park-like setting and extra wide sidewalks. Just a short distance away is 7th Avenue, Downtown's Creative Edge, where you'll find the Historic Depot and a blend new and old establishments, breweries and more.

Hickory
Hickory’s beautiful location at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the shores of the Catawba River offers something for everyone. Ideally located along I-40 between Charlotte and Asheville, Hickory serves as the regional hub of the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton metropolitan statistical area and offers everything residents and visitors need within a short drive. For those seeking extra adventure or a change of scenery, unique cities like Charlotte, Asheville, and Boone are just an hour away. Hickory strikes the perfect balance of small town charm and big city amenities.
Hot Springs
Small town along the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River, and surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The Hot Springs Resort & Spa offered soaks in natural hot mineral water.
The downtown block from the Hot Springs Welcome Center to the Spa was devastated by Hurricane Helene flooding on Sept 27.
Jefferson
Nestled in the North Carolina High Country of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the town of Jefferson is the heart of Ashe County. As the county seat, it is the hub of government, health care and social services for our 25,000 area residents. It is also the core of tranquility for those who call it home as well as for those who visit. We are a friendly community, welcoming all who choose to absorb our natural beauty and relax in our quiet corner of northwest North Carolina. Our residents enjoy the comfort and security of a small town with easy accessibility to a major university (Appalachian State) and to amenities offered by larger communities in North Carolina, southwest Virginia and east Tennessee. Our public schools are state-of-the-art. Our branch of Wilkes Community College plays a pivotal part in continued education and in the development of a well-trained workforce. We are balanced in our work and recreation. We value the important part small towns play in the economic well-being of our citizens. Lake Lure & Chimney Rock
Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village are well-known destinations for thousands of visitors each year from around this country, Canada, and abroad.
Located in western North Carolina, the towns sit in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge, east of Asheville. The Rocky Broad River winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge, and the crystal clear water flows through the valley that feeds Lake Lure.
Chimney Rock Village is best known for Chimney Rock State Park that offers hiking, bouldering and panoramic views of Lake Lure.
This area was hit hard by Helene and many businesses are not yet open, but there are a few businesses that have reopened and have online shopping available where you can show your support or donate to their relief fund. Help this community rebuild.
Lansing
Lansing is a vibrant small town in the very north west corner of North Carolina. Our community, though small, is mighty and currently in our rebuilding phase. Though we are not currently 100% open for business, our community is coming together to rebuild stronger than before. We look forward to hosting visitors again in the near future.
Maggie Valley
Maggie Valley: She's a breath of fresh air! This inviting town is a true mountain gem. Try authentic country fare at mom-and-pop eateries, browse eclectic shops, and soar to new heights with direct access to numerous hiking and biking trails. While you're in town, sift for treasure at Maggie Valley Rock Shop & Gem Mine, visit the world's rarest motorcycle at Dale's Wheels Through Time Museum, watch live chainsaw wood-sculpting at Mountain Mike's Whetstone Woodworks, and much more. In Maggie Valley, adventure awaits at every turn!
Mars Hill
Mars Hill is a town that is rich in history, character, and people. It is located in the southern portion of Madison County, North Carolina in an area known for its beautiful mountain views and picturesque setting. The town's history is inextricably linked with that of Mars Hill College, the oldest educational institution, still in its original location, in Western North Carolina.
Marshall
The Town of Marshall is nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina on the banks of the French Broad River and is rich in history, scenery, outdoor activities and mountain culture.
In Historic Downtown Marshall you'll find an historical county courthouse, old-time stores, art galleries, shops with unique home decor and gifts, restaurants cooking with produce from local farms, a Sunday afternoon farmers market on the island, and more. Serving the mountain community, you will find holiday events, county services, and the home offices for the county libraries.
Marshall is also becoming a center for artists. Browse the galleries on the island and downtown, go to classes, exhibits, shows and concerts, often centered on mountain culture.
Mills River
Mills River lies in the northwestern part of Henderson County, extending northeast to the Buncombe County border and southwest to the Transylvania County border. It is bordered to the northeast by the city of Asheville and the town of Fletcher.
The population was 6,802 at the 2010 census,[4] and was estimated to be 7,406 in 2019.[5] The town took its name from the nearby confluence of the Mills River and French Broad River.[6] It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was incorporated into a town in June 2003. Sierra Nevada opened a brewery in Mills River in 2014.
Morganton

Nebo/Lake James
The primary attraction in Nebo is Lake James. Lake James State Park is located on its southern shore.
The Nebo Historic Springbox is located between Nebo elementary and the railroad. It is one of the few remaining structures from Nebo's original incorporation as a town. The Nebo Historic Springbox was a meeting place for the community and the primary water source for the original Nebo school building.
North Wilkesboro
Downtown North Wilkesboro is a charming North Carolina town at the foothills of the mountains, nestled at the confluence of the Yadkin and Reddies rivers. Known for its rich history, vibrant arts scene, and outdoor adventures, North Wilkesboro offers something for everyone. Old Fort
Since 1869 travelers through these mountains looked for the familiar sight of a tall water plume, a man-made geyser, and a resort hotel tucked away at the base of the Blue Ridge this signaled the start of the long climb to Asheville through some of the most scenic terrain in North Carolina. In Old Fort, you won’t find tourist glitz or overdeveloped sprawl. Just real people, real beauty and real fun.

Robbinsville
Robbinsville is a charming little town that invites travelers to stroll around the historic courthouse square, pause for a cup of coffee or draft beverage, and sit for a meal in numerous locally owned family restaurants. There are several craft and cultural businesses in the community including the nearby historic Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center.
Robbinsville is nestled in Graham County - an area rich in beautiful lakes, trails, and forests such as the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. It is the home of Lake Santeetlah – voted the most beautiful lake in the country – and of Fontana Dam, the largest dam east of the Mississippi!

Rutherfordton
Established in 1787, Rutherfordton is one of the oldest towns in Western North Carolina. Spruce Pine
Spruce Pine is a quaint, welcoming mountain town surrounded by natural beauty and filled with an artistic spirit. Located on a steep bluff overlooking the Toe River and situated next to an old railroad line is the Downtown Spruce Pine Historic District.
The town expands to encompass Grassy Creek that includes shops, restaurants, and the newly remodeled Grassy Creek Golf Course. You will also find the NC Mineral Museum that is at the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Sugar Mountain
